What is C95800?
C95800 is a high-strength cast nickel aluminium bronze, nominal CuAl8Ni5Fe4Mn, used widely in marine, offshore and heavy engineering. It combines impact strength, excellent seawater corrosion resistance, outstanding wear and abrasion resistance, good cavitation and erosion resistance and anti-galling behaviour, and is heat treatable. It is specified for propellers, shafts, valves, pumps, gears and seawater systems.
Should you specify C95800?
Specify C95800 when the component is a casting that lives in seawater and has to survive both corrosion and mechanical wear. It is the default cast nickel aluminium bronze for propellers, seawater pump and valve bodies, and offshore structural castings, and it is heat treatable where higher properties are needed.
Against C95500, Copper Alloys note that C95800 typically offers improved strength and enhanced resistance to seawater corrosion, so if you are choosing between the two for a new seawater casting, C95800 is usually the safer default. C95500 remains the right answer where an existing AB2 or C95500 drawing has to be matched.
Where different mechanical or compositional characteristics are needed, the wrought grades C63000 and C63200 are the alternatives to look at. A wrought product gives more consistent properties and easier volumetric inspection than any casting, so if your part is a pressure boundary or fatigue critical, price the wrought route before defaulting to a casting.
The practical constraint is section size and casting integrity, not the alloy. Get the foundry involved in the casting method and the inspection standard at drawing stage.
Best for cast seawater components - propellers, pump and valve bodies, gears and structural castings - where corrosion and wear both matter.
